A processor for payments made over the internet has said this week that many UK retailers could be set to miss out on seasonal revenue because their back-end systems can't handle the pressure.
Online sales are believed to peak at a record £11.5 billion this festive period, although some e-retailers will need to ensure their systems can cope, according to Chase Paymentech Europe.
The company thinks sales will grow 29 per cent compared to last year, as firms which
create a website benefit from trying weather conditions.
Managing director Shane Fitzpatrick says: "While there is a huge opportunity for merchants to grow revenues over the Christmas period, many are unprepared for the impact of the rush on back-end systems."
