Almost a quarter of Times Online users have said they are "likely" to pay for the publication's news, once their paywall is erected, according to a survey.
The Harris Interactive study was commissioned for paidContent:UK, and also showed 76 per cent of users do not intend to pay at all.
The founder of digital services firm Idea Taxi, Sachit Patel said that:
"Newspaper owners are banking on online news payments services increasing loyalty to their single services."
He went on to say that he considered this to be unlikely.
Mr Patel noted that: "It is likely that consumers will continue to demand both free, light news stories as well as more specialised / premium news services."
