Google has signed a deal that will allow UK users to link up their home energy monitors to the company's online electricity monitoring service PowerMeter.
The move means that users of Current Cost monitors, given away for free by a number of power companies, will now be able to check their home energy consumption anywhere, at anytime.
Google's sophisticated software then tracks energy use over time, allowing users to access the data over a website and see where they can make changes.
The technology allows users to see if they have left an appliance on while they're at work or alternatively could allow small businesses to save money by tracking their electricity consumption more easily.
