Quick SEO tips

There are lots of factors to consider if you’d like to boost your positioning on search engines, like Google. Try out some of the tips below to help your website gain a better ranking for it's keywords and search terms:

1. Make sure your website is fully completed and updated frequently
Ensure that you have submitted your website to search engines so they will be included in their search results, click here for more information.

2. Search engines read text on your website from left to right
So if you have the navigation bar on the left, the search engine will see this text before it sees any page titles or text on your website. Try switching the positioning of your navigation bar so it’s on the right or at the top of your page.

3. Each page you create with Takeaway Website allows you to insert a ‘description’, which will appear at the top of your web page
Use the description box to construct the first paragraph of your text and try to incorporate several keywords. This also relates to the tip above, as by having your navigation on the right or top of the page search engines will be able to pick up description text in one full flow.

4. Keywords should make up no more than about 10% of your website content
About five or six times per page is sufficient. Also, ensure that you are only using no more than three keywords on each page. If you overuse them Google will not take your attempts seriously and may ban you.

5. Internal linking
A link that connects to another page on the same website – this is another important factor. Your navigation bar is one form of internal linking. However, if you mention a keyword in your text that also has its own web page; you should insert a link to the page in question.

For example, if you are a wedding planner and one of your keywords is ‘Organising your wedding’, you could incorporate it into the following sentence on your ‘Event planning’ page:

‘Organising your wedding should be a pleasurable experience, but in reality every wedding has its challenges.’

You can create a hyperlink for ‘Organising your wedding’, which means when a visitor clicks on it they will be directed straight to the ‘Organising your wedding’ page. By using these internal links, the ‘Event planning’ page will now have two keywords attached to it – ‘Event planning’ and ‘Organising you wedding’, which increases the chance of search engines picking them up. Eventually, you can try internally linking a few more keywords on each page to other pages on your website.

6. You should submit your website to as many directories as possible
You can get more help on this by clicking here.

7. External link building, which is just as important as your internal linking
To link with external websites, find some websites or discussions that are similar to your own. Then contact the authors and ask if they will link their website to yours (and in return you can link back to them). It’s best to ask the author to link to a keyword that you have also used as a page name – so using the wedding planner example, you could ask them to link to the ‘Organise your wedding’ page.

You can also try leaving posts on large discussion forums that cover topics featured on your website, by leaving a link in your posts going to your website. Don't spam forums as some wont like it; but do actively participate in the discussions and where relevant put a link to your website under your keyword (just like I have been doing in this post for the other tips I have posted). So if you joined a wedding discussion forum and someone enquired about wedding organisers, you should give a helpful reply and then post your website address, which avoids you regarded as a spammer.

Simply put, a Sitemap is a street directory or road map of your website's pages. A Sitemap can help make sure that Google knows about all the pages on your site, including pages that may not be able to be found by Google's normal crawling (information gathering) routines. Sitemaps give extra information about your website to Google, complementing Google's normal methods of crawling the web and can help Google crawl more of your website in a more efficient and speedy way.

This normally complex and confusing process is made simple with SiteBoost's Keyword Boost tool.

SiteBoost will inform you of all of the most important search engines and guide you, step-by-step, through how you to submit your website to them.

Verifying your website helps Google to confirm that you own your site. In order for Google to acknowledge your site-boosting Sitemap you must first verify your website with Google. Without SiteBoost's built-in Verification tool this can be complicated and confusing, however SiteBoost helps you to do this simply, quickly and easily. In addition, verifying with Google gives you instant access to Google's verification tools, allowing you to analyse and hence boost your website even further.

The Search Engine Results Page tool allows you to see detailed statistics on your website's progress on search engines like Google. You can find out how many times your website has appeared on all the different search engines e.g. on Google, MSN, Alta Vista, Yahoo, AllTheWeb and so on. You can also find out which of your website pages are the most popular on each search engine. All this information will give you a clear indication of how well your website is positioned on the internet and how easy it is to find. This means that you will be able to track the site-boosting effect of any changes you make to your website and make any further changes accordingly.
